Do you work on campusYes, I work as a graphic design intern in the Athletic Communications Department office

Do you have an off-campus job? I am a business development intern at fitDEGREE.

Why did you choose your major?

When looking toward a career, I knew two things:

  1. I did not want to be stuck behind a desk all day
  2. I wanted to stay involved in athletics

I explored options of becoming an athletic trainer, an agent, a nutritionist, but all of them seemed stagnant. A public relations degree offers a wide range of job opportunities along with an opportunity to stay involved in sports. A fine arts degree provides me with a creative outlet and ensures my job will never be mundane. I look forward to the future and pursuing a career in sports marketing, event planning and promotion.

One reason why you chose Rowan? One reason I chose Rowan was because of its rapidly growing campus and population. With my major, being involved on campus is key! Rowan University gives me the opportunity to be a part of something, help it grow and see its direct impact on the University and its community.

My Typical Day as a Rowan Student

A typical day for me begins around 7:00 a.m. I wake up, check my schedule for any meetings or notes for the day and head out the door to grab a coffee before my 8:00 a.m. FOUR days a week.

Tuesdays are typically my most hectic day. For the first six hours I am confined to Westby Hall. I start my day with Special Topics, a photography class, where we learn and manipulate techniques to create a narrative. We have a photo studio that we work out of, too, which is helpful. Then I have about an hour before my Art History class. Instead of going back to my apartment, I typically go to the common area in Westby to get some work done. In this area on the second floor you can actually see some of my artwork displayed in the cases!

Around 2:00 p.m., I head to Rowan’s Campbell Library to meet with Nick Dennis, CEO of fitDEGREE, for a strategy meeting as part of my business development internship. After my meeting, I swing by the convenience store ROGO in the Student Center to grab a protein bar, and sometimes another coffee, before my Public Relations Planning night class. During the course we are separated into groups and assigned a client. My group was assigned “An Opportunity’s Knockin’”, a group devoted to providing young kids with opportunities and teach them how to create a balance in their life. Throughout the semester we work to create a plan of action for the company to better publicize themselves. At the end of the semester we get to present the plan to them, just as if we were professionals with a career in the field.

student working outMy academic schedule finally comes to an end around 7:45 p.m. when I sprint to my apartment in Beau Rivage to eat dinner! This usually consist of throwing some chicken or a turkey burger on my George Foreman grill as I work on homework and projects from the day.

After I eat, I head to the gym with my roommate for a quick workout before I shower, prep for my 8:00 a.m. the next morning and pass out.

We are #RowanPROUD and we are Rowan Profs! Not exactly sure what a Prof is? It’s our owl mascot, Whoo RU. Read about him here
