Today, we speak with Nasir Nichols, a freshman radio/TV/film major from Paterson (Passaic County), NJ, who lives on campus in Laurel Hall. Nasir will share his #PROFspective with us on what it’s like to be a Rowan University student and how he’s getting the most out of his college experience as a Rowan Prof.

Why did you choose your major? I chose my major because I want to be in the sports broadcasting industry because of my passion for sports.
One reason why you chose Rowan? I chose Rowan because it is the place that I thought that I best fit into. Also because I thought it was the best place for me to gain and increase knowledge and experience to use later in life when I have a job.
My typical day as a Rowan student:
Every weekday, I usually wake up between 7:45 a.m. and 8:10 because my first class every day starts at 9:30 a.m. Monday is one of the easiest days that I have all week because I just have the one class at 9:30 a.m. After I am done, I get with some friends and get lots of work done so I am not behind in the week. Being behind in work for the week is one of the worst feelings for me so Monday is one of the most productive days for me when it comes to getting work done.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days for myself. Tuesday I have my first class, which is Essentials to Psychology from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Western Civilization at 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., and my final class Contemporary Mathematics from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. After I finish my classes, I am usually tired and take a power nap to reenergize.
Once I wake up, I eat dinner and then head over to the Recreation Center to either work out with my brother and some friends or play basketball. Basketball is one of my favorite sports, so I’m usually in the Rec playing from 6:30 p.m. until it closes, which is 12:00 a.m. every weekday. I usually go to the Rec because I think that exercise is something that is very important in everyday life, so I try to get as much of it as I can.
Other events that I go to on campus throughout the week are the events from Rowan After Hours. They hold various activities throughout the campus. A few activities that they hosted previously were bingo and black-light dodgeball.
On the weekends, I usually have club meetings. I am a part of an organization called FLIP (First-Year Leadership Involvement Program). This program helps young college students learn leader-like qualities and come together with people who are in the same position they are. Another program that I was a part of was Rowan Unified Sports. In this club, Rowan students come together with Special Olympic athletes to play a competitive season of team sports. In the fall we played soccer and, in the spring, I will play basketball.
