Today we speak with freshman Jada Jenkins, a Psychology major and commuter from Blackwood, NJ (Camden County). She tells us about her experience so far at Rowan. Jada is part of PROFFAMILY, a newly-formed freshmen group focused on inclusion and fun.
Why did you choose Rowan?
Rowan was one of my top two schools and they accepted me early. I wanted to stay in-state and be close to home. I visited Rowan before and I really liked the campus. I liked how it looked, I liked the people I met when I came here and I just really love the environment.
So what has it been like being a freshman, especially a freshman commuter, during COVID?
For it to be COVID is kinda like bittersweet because we don’t have to wake up early to get out of bed to go to class physically, but then not going to class physically makes me lose motivation so it’s kind of hard. I’ve made friends through the PROFFAMILY and I’m grateful for that. I come to campus a lot to just socialize and hang out with PROFFAMILY. I love Cookie Munchers on Rowan Boulevard, too!
How did you choose your major?
Psychology is something I’ve always been interested in since I was young. I was always interested in how the mind works and why people did what they did and I was kind of obsessed with criminals and serial killers. I wanted to know how they think. I want to become a doctor and open my own practice to help people.
Have you taken any Psychology classes yet?
I have two psychology classes now: Navigating Psychology and Essentials of Psychology. I like them, I’m learning about stuff I’ve never known about.
