Today we feature first-generation college senior Luis Ozoria. Luis’s favorite class was Foundations of Music Education in the Music department taught by Dr. Adrian Barnes. Luis recently graduated with a bachelor’s of music in Jazz Studies and is from Galloway, NJ (Atlantic County).

Tell us a little about what the class is…

The class gives you insight into the important realities of being an educator and how your role can seem like a day to day job, but how you can wind up impacting students for the rest of their lives.

Share with us a few details on why this class was interesting or special to you.

It clarified that I wanted to be an educator and impact future students.

Is there anything else that made this class impactful?

Dr. Barnes is perfect for teaching the course.

What makes this professor great?

He has this energy to make you feel uplifted and important. He hands you this responsibility in the beginning of the course to hold the integrity of the education you provide and it makes you feel prideful and excited for what is to come.

How did this class help to support your academic or personal growth, or your professional goals?

It made me realize that ultimately my passion is education and mentorship and that I would want no other career.
