Today we introduce you to Lila Dasi, a first-year student in the Biological Engineering program at Rowan University. Lila, of Union County, NJ, talks to us about her major, clubs, and more.

What is your favorite part about attending Rowan University?

I think the campus is really pretty and offers a lot of great spaces to sit and relax. I also like that Rowan has a lot of different organizations and clubs on campus for students to be involved in, and to find their community.

What inspired you to pursue a Biomedical Engineering degree with a Pre-Med minor?

I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in medicine, but I didn’t want to major in the traditional Biology or Chemistry that many pre-med students usually do. So, as I was exploring different majors, I discovered Biomedical Engineering, which is described as the interface between engineering and medicine. I love building, designing, being creative, and solving problems, which cater to that engineering aspect. This major is the perfect fit for me, and helps me fulfill the requirements that I would need for medical school.

Are you involved in any clubs on campus?

I am involved in Chi Alpha, which is a Christian organization on campus, a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the secretary of Engineers Without Borders (EWB).

I am also a part of the Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS) which focuses on empowering others to take steps towards addressing minority health issues.

Do you have any advice for incoming students looking to attend Rowan?

Do your research. There are so many opportunities and so many different things to do here at Rowan. If you’re looking for things to do, Rowan is the place to go.

I love how they offer a variety of events like Rowan After Hours (RAH) and Student University Programmers (SUP). Take advantage of everything that Rowan has to offer.
